What's Provided & What To Bring

Please note: Below are some items you may or may not need, depending on your situation. Amenities vary at each college. Room sizes are limited, so you don’t want to bring too much stuff! We also recommend contacting your future roommates beforehand to make sure there won't be a duplication of appliances cluttering up valuable living space.

We suggest waiting until you arrive to determine any additional items to bring (including small bookshelf, storage, etc.).

Arrange When You Arrive...

Refrigerator / Microwave (residence hall style)

You may bring your own mini refrigerator, if it is smaller than five cubic feet and has a safe UL-approved electrical system. We recommend a micro fridge which will save on energy and help keep our community "green"! Allowable wattage for microwaves is up to 700 watts.

Telephone service

You may want to consider cellular phone service for your primary line. If you would like a land line phone, be sure to bring it.

Accommodation Needs

Disability Accommodations

Students with a disability or other medical need that requires special Housing accommodations should apply for Housing online AND contact the Office for Students with Disabilities (OSD) as early as possible. OSD is the only office on-campus that can review a student’s medical documentation and make recommendations for the student’s needs on-campus, including in Housing. Students must meet all Housing deadlines and submit their signed Authorization for Accommodation (AFA) Letter from OSD to the HDH Special Programs Coordinator (SPC). For questions about this process in Housing, you may contact the HDH SPC by email or phone to discuss your situation and options.

Food Allergy Accommodations

UCSD Dining provides a robust and flexible Dining program that has been able to accommodate students with food allergies and intolerances. Guaranteed students with food allergies requiring special Dining accommodations should contact the Office for Students with Disabilities (OSD) as early as possible and well before your first meal in dining. Accommodations will be made for students who submit their signed Authorization for Accommodation (AFA) Letter from OSD to the HDH Registered Dietitian. For questions about this process in Housing, you may contact the HDH SPC by email or phone.

Transgender Students

If you have questions about how you will be housed based on your gender identity, we strongly encourage students to contact the HDH SPC by email or phone to discuss individual and specific needs. More information on transgender living and the transgender community at UC San Diego is available at the LGBT Resource Center website.

Special circumstances

If you have unique conditions that may warrant special attention, contact the HDH SPC by email or phone to discuss your situation and options.
