Housing for Current Undergrad Residents

Housing Contracts

Housing • Dining • Hospitality (HDH), in collaboration with UC San Diego and the individual colleges and residence life programs, stand behind promoting and strengthening the Residence College System and the community as a whole.

We believe that living on campus greatly enhances the college experience. When you choose to live at UC San Diego, you grow and benefit from staff trained to create an environment that supports living and learning. It’s the best way to get involved in campus life and build strong friendships.

We believe that our high caliber program will play a vital role in your happiness and success at UC San Diego because your overall college experience is as important to us as it is to you.

All on campus residents with an active housing contract for the 2021-22 academic year will have the ability to select their testing and move-in date and time from available time slots. Our main move-in process will take place from September 11th to September 21st.  Students will select from available times between 8:30am and 3:30pm.  Students will select their testing and move-in date and time through their MyRoomAssignment page available in the Housing Portal which will open in staged phases beginning August 24th

Welcome Letters will be sent via email to your UC San Diego email account from your Residence Housing Community. All students will need to have selected their testing and move-in date and time by the deadline date of Thursday, September 2nd at 11:59PM (PST). You can continue to adjust your testing and move-in date and time until the deadline date. Students that do not have a time will be assigned one from the remaining available time slots.

There will be an opportunity to select testing and move-in date and time for later arrivals, September 22nd through September 24th.  Any student that is not able to arrive by September 24th, will need to connect with their Residence Life Office to discuss late arrival options after September 25th.

If you miss your selected testing and move-in date and time, you will need to arrange your housing accommodations (at your expense) for that night and communicate with your Residence Life Office for arrival the next day.  There will be no afterhours move-ins allowed as all students must receive a COVID-19 test before getting keys and moving into their space.

Information specific to your move-in process will be included in your testing and move-in date and time confirmation email. You should continue to monitor the Return To Learn site and the HDH COVID-19 FAQ page for any updates.

Contract Cancellations

Students who would like to cancel their housing contract and have not yet checked-in or moved-in, may do so by logging into the Housing Portal and submitting a Housing Contract Cancellation Request.

If a student cancels their housing contract and receives financial aid, this could result in a reduction to the cost of attendance and a reduction to their financial aid. Notify the Financial Aid and Scholarships Office of your new housing arrangements. If you are living off-campus, you may need to submit a copy of your lease agreement. For more information please visit

If you cancel your housing contract and would like to live on campus in future quarters, you may apply for our housing waitlist.

Students who cancel their 2021-22 housing contract may be moved to a lower priority group for housing
in the 2022-23 academic year.

Contract Terminations

Once a student has checked in and obtained keys, Contract Cancellations are no longer accepted. If a student has an extenuating circumstance necessitating a contract termination, they will need to submit a Contract Termination Request form via the Housing Portal. The Contract Termination Request will be reviewed along with any accompanying documentation and a decision will be sent to the student within three (3) business days. Contract Termination Requests are granted for only very extenuating circumstances. Finding another apartment off-campus is not considered an extenuating circumstance and we advise students NOT to sign leases off-campus while they still hold an on-campus housing contract.

If a Contract Termination Request is granted, the housing and dining dollars will be pro-rated based on when the student completes the move-out process which includes an approved Contract Termination, any residential housing move-out requirements and returning keys to the Residence Life Office. Any dining dollar over-usage will be charged to the student.  There is no proration for housing and dining in the first and last two weeks of each quarter.

Students who are approved for early contract terminations in 2021-22 may be moved to a lower priority group for housing in the 2022-23 academic year.
