Meet the Team

UC San Diego’s Hospitality and Conference Services (HCS) is dedicated to supporting the University’s internal academic community as well as external business partners by providing a collection of diverse meeting and event venues, flexible Housing accommodations, and full-service conference planning. In doing so, we generate revenue that contributes to a fiscally solvent enterprise that offsets the costs of our student residents during the academic year.

Jackie Campbell, Associate Director of Conferences, comes to UC San Diego with over a decade of experience with Hornblower Cruises and Events. Her experience in sales and full-service event planning is only paralleled by the excitement, passion, and high-level of customer service she extends to both colleagues and clients. Jackie recently served a three-year term as the President for the San Diego Chapter of the National Association of Catering and Events and continues to be actively involved in our vibrant San Diego hospitality community.

Davell Jackson-Brown

Davell has been with Conference Services since 1997, but she has been an integral part of the Housing • Dining • Hospitality team for 32 years, starting in Dining and moving her way up through administration while experiencing every facet of the department’s operations. Her passion for the campus is apparent in her relationships with other UC San Diego divisions, her involvement with various campus committees, and her winning numerous diversity and customer service awards. Anita Treviño Neubarth

Anita joined Conference Services after leading the sales team for UC San Diego Catering for 11 years. She is known for her creativity when producing events, including unique menu development, set design and flawless execution on every project. She has a trained eye for detail, extensive knowledge of the campus, and understands how to deliver the client’s overall vision, making her an exceptional addition to the Conference team. Prior to joining UC San Diego, Anita worked for 25 years in the hotel and resort industry, opening properties such as L’Auberge Del Mar Hotel and Resort, Fairbanks Ranch Country Club and Cal-a-Vie Health Resort, while serving as the Director of Catering and Conference Services and National Sales Manager.

Kristina Young
Sales Development Manager

Kristina comes to UC San Diego with over a decade of sales experience and hospitality. Upon graduating from Cal State San Marcos in 2003 (Business Administration, Global Business Management), Kristina (a native New Yorker), then traveled to the Pacific Northwest where she laid her foundation for event planning, working as an Events Coordinator at Greater Seattle Chamber of Commerce and Catering Sales Manager for the private Washington Athletic Club and the iconic Palisade Restaurant. Her passion for the sun, sand, and Restaurant industry led her back to San Diego, where she worked with Seasons 52 Fresh Grill and Wine Bar leading the private dining program. Kristina enjoys traveling, hiking and geocaching.

Marilyn Samm-Smith, CMP, CMM

Marilyn began her career at UC San Diego as a professional event planner over 17 years ago, and has coordinated and managed summer conferences and events for 11 years. Marilyn has achieved the Certified Meeting Professional (CMP) and Certification in Meeting Management (CMM) industry designations and is an active member of Meeting Professionals International. Her work experience combined with her professionalism and excellent customer service results in highly satisfied conferences year after year.

Suzette Olguin

Suzette has been with Housing • Dining • Hospitality since 2002, starting in the Triton Cash office and transitioning to Conference Services in 2006. In addition to coordinating conferences, she acts as the IT liaison in the effort to streamline paperwork and procedures in the office. She has an affinity for music, board games, dogs—and great customer service!

Joe Fejeran
Conference Coordinator

Joe is a “connector of dots,” with a focus on understanding the guest experience. He began his hospitality career at the iconic Hotel del Coronado as a Concierge, serving briefly on the Board of the San Diego Concierge Association. From there, Joe moved into leadership positions at the Front Desk and then the Spa at the Del, where he learned to exceed the expectations of high-end leisure guests and large corporate groups. Joe is a proud graduate of UC San Diego (Bachelor of Arts in Communication), and when he’s off-campus he enjoys reliving his Concierge days by experiencing the best restaurants and live performances that America’s Finest City has to offer. He is looking forward to bringing his passion for exceptional service to your next event!

Andrew Christensen
Event Coordinator

Andrew joined Hospitality and Conference Services in December 2015. A graduate of Beloit College in Wisconsin, he spent the two years after college coordinating development and behavioral economics research at the University of Chicago’s Booth School of Business. Upon moving to San Diego, he served as the Special Events Coordinator for the San Diego Museum of Art in Balboa Park, managing external events and assisting with the planning and execution of popular events like Culture & Cocktails and Art Alive. In his free time you can find him in, on, or around the ocean, riding his bike, playing sports, and exploring this beautiful city. Andrew enjoys being a part of the Conference Services team so he can create enjoyable and memorable event experiences on campus!

Itzel Baeza
Conference Coordinator

Itzel graduated from UC Berkeley with a degree in Anthropology. While a student, she had the opportunity to work at the Career Center where she realized she enjoyed helping people reach their goals. She continued to serve the campus community until she moved to San Diego to complete the Master’s Certificate Paralegal Business Program at the University of San Diego. She worked in the legal field for 4 years before joining Hospitality and Conference Services in October 2016. She is ready to greet you with a smile either in person or by phone and provide you with the best service possible. “Making one person smile can change the world. Maybe not the whole world but their world. Start small. Start now”

Michaela Hansen

Michaela believes in customer service that exceeds expectations. Her attention to detail keeps things running smoothly for customers and colleagues alike. Before joining the Conference Services team in 2016, she helped to establish a Centralized Leasing Office for graduate and staff Housing. In her free time you can find her traveling, enjoying the coastal life of San Diego, illustrating, and working on her photography.
