Specialty Diets

Whether your special diet is medically necessitated or a cultural/lifestyle choice, you have access to an on-site Registered Dietitian who can assist you in your daily meal planning needs. Please feel free to contact HDHdietitian@ucsd.edu to request additional information if you need assistance with a specialty diet.

Be sure to check out the HDH food and nutrition blog, Triton Eats! At Triton Eats, we strive for a campus-wide environment of health, sustainability, and wellbeing. We provide resources to students with specialized dietary needs; offer a space for positive discussion and dialogue; provide student connection; and promote healthy change on campus. Stop by today for everything you need to know about eating well with HDH, and beyond!

Medically Necessitated Diets

Dining Services is able to accommodate individuals that require a specialized diet, such as those with food allergies, intolerances, and specific medical diagnoses such as diabetes, hypertension, irritable bowel syndrome, etc. Individuals with medical conditions that require specific dietary accommodations should first contact the Office for Students with Disabilities (OSD) as early as possible at osd.ucsd.edu. Once registered with OSD, our Registered Dietitian will meet with you to set up an individualized plan, assuring your nutritional needs are met. Questions about this process can be directed to HDHdietitian@ucsd.edu.

Cultural & Lifestyle Dietary Choices

Dining Services provides nutritional information reflective of the ingredients used when preparing our products—this is designed to guide you in making the best choices for you. If you have questions you are encouraged to contact our culinary department directly at vvargus@ucsd.edu

Food Allergies

If your allergy is not severe or medically documented, you will be able to self-manage using our online menu. All of our menus, complete with ingredients and nutritional info, are available on the Dining Menus website.

If your allergy is medically documented, please register with the Office for Students with Disabilities. All newly admitted students who have submitted their Statement of Intent to Register (SIR) should contact OSD immediately to discuss accommodation needs. If you’re an extension student, call 858.534.5798. Once registered, you are eligible to receive custom meals prepared for you by Dining Services in a cross-contamination free “safe zone”.
