The Village Philosophy
Housing • Dining • Hospitality strives to be an ecologically responsible department.
We are committed to educating our residents and employees on how we all individually impact the environment. We try to provide everything at The Village so that you can be as green as possible. Students will be best served in this community with a laptop (we’ll provide the wireless). No car needed… simply roll out of bed and walk to the nearest dining restaurant, retail market, bookstore, farmer’s market, class, or the beach! It’s all nearby at The Village.
The project goal for The Village is to achieve the Green Building Council (UC San Diego Equivalency) Silver Rating.
The community features:
- Energy efficient boilers.
- Energy efficient glazing throughout.
- “Green” interior finishes including (but not limited to) flooring, cabinetry, and paint.
- Sustainable landscape design (Irrigation/Planting) and storm water run-off.
- Sustainable building materials (steel framed structures in lieu of wood).
- Building shading devices.
- Low flow water plumbing devices throughout.
- The existing parking lot was ground up and utilized on-site as base for the new construction.
- Energy efficient lighting throughout.
In addition, a great majority of the waste from the construction site is being recycled. Learn more about our recycling program, conservation education, and sustainability efforts online at Major Planet.
Sense of Community
Residents agree to support a community free of discrimination while promoting individuality and diversity within the bounds of courtesy, sensitivity, confidentiality, respect, and safety. All residents will coexist regardless of race, ethnicity, age, disability, sexual orientation, religion, or political beliefs.
