Global Community at Revelle
General Information
The Housing Dining Hospitality department of UC San Diego has set aside some residence hall spaces in the Revelle campus that will give priority to students coming in from another country. The new program is called Global Community at Revelle. This new community answers the need to offer more housing to international students. Living on campus provides students with the convenience of being close to classes as well as recreational facilities around campus. Staff at Revelle Residence Life will provide special activities and events to make your stay at Revelle enjoyable, culturally rewarding, and educational.
Eligibility
Any single international undergraduate or EAP reciprocity student is given priority to live in Global Community at Revelle. Single American undergraduate students interested in sharing the program experience are also eligible to apply for a contract here.
Contract Offers
There are still open spaces in the Global Community at Revelle! Spaces, however, are not automatically assigned. Contracts are sent after applying to the Undergraduate Waitlist or emailing Cathy Incandela of the Housing Administrative Services office directly with your interest. Contracts are for the entire academic year or the end of your UCSD enrollment if it is before the end of the Spring Quarter 2010. Feel free to discuss your housing options and/or housing documents with Cathy at 858.534.7399.
The ability to extend the contract thru the summer will be made available in early 2010. More details on how to extend to come soon.
Accommodations
Global Community residents will be housed in double rooms in residence halls at Revelle. The bedrooms are furnished with a bed, desk, chair, closet, and bookshelf for each resident. Microwaves are not provided. Check back for a referral list. A list of services and amenities can be viewed here. Unlike other residence hall facilities, the rooms of Global Community residents will remain open during all holidays and breaks. Dining restaurants will be closed during holidays and breaks, however all Global Community residents will have access to a community kitchen in an adjacent building’s lounge.
Room Assignments
Room assignments are made by the Revelle Residence Life staff at the end of August. Residents will be emailed a Welcome Letter with Fall 2009 move-in information, including room assignment and contact information of their roommates. An option to increase the Dining Plan will also be available as well as the ability to select an earlier date to move-in at a $50 per day charge. The contract specified move-in date is Saturday September 19th. The earliest move-in date a student can request is Wednesday afternoon September 16, 2009.
Rates
Double rooms on campus for the academic year (Fall Quarter 2009 thru Spring Quarter 2010) are $9,811. This is the same rate all other undergraduate students are charged for a Revelle Residence Hall. If you are sent a housing contract packet you will have a form to fill out (Personal History Form) asking if you prefer to be billed monthly, quarterly, or in-full.
Dining
$2,795 Dining Plan Dollars is included in the $9,811 academic year rate for a residence hall double room. The Dining Dollars is carried on the student ID card. Each purchase is automatically deducted from your account balance- just like a bank debit card. Dining Dollars expire at the end of the academic year. Please note: 2795 is for 3 quarters, so if you are here for only one quarter, your dining plan is between $911 and 959 depending on what quarter you are here.
