Are utilities included in my rent?
Water and gas are included in your rent, electricity is not. A sub-metering system has been established at the Rita Atkinson Residences (RAR) and you will receive a monthly invoice from the Residential Services Office for electricity usage. You may subscribe for cable and internet service directly with a local vendor.
How do I dispose of trash and recyclable items at the RAR?
A state of the art trash chute is installed and can be accessed from every floor. All you need to do is to put your trash and recyclables in separate bags, take them to the chute door on your floor, press the correct button and away they go. It is very important to put items in bags that can be tied up to keep the chute clean and free of odors. If the chute door doesn’t open immediately that means someone on another floor is using the chute. When they are finished you will be able to open the chute door.
Where do I do my laundry at the RAR?
Laundry facilities are located on the fourth floor of the building. For your convenience, the washers and dryers are equipped to accept Triton Cash cards only and do not accept coins. For more information on Triton Cash you can visit website.
Is there parking available on-site?
There are 20 minute parking spaces and ADA spaces at the building. In addition, a Zipcar will be available for use by residents and there is a shuttle stop nearby. You can access shuttle schedules and a map at UCSD Shuttle Service website. There is no long term parking at the building but residents can buy parking permits for parking in lots on the campus.
Is there a place for me to store my bike at the RAR?
Yes! There is a separate storage room located on the first floor of the building dedicated to bike storage. Your apartment key card will allow you access to this room. We always recommend registering your bike with UCPD and securing your bike with a sturdy lock. For more information on registering your bike please visit the UCSD Bike Shop website.
What if I need to move out of my apartment before my rental agreement ends?
Every rental agreement has a provision that allows you to cancel your rental agreement, without penalty, with 30 days written notice. If you decide to cancel your rental agreement you will need to submit a 30 Day Notice of Intent to Vacate form which can be obtained at our website or in the Residential Services Office.
What furnishings are included with the apartment?
In addition to a refrigerator and range with hood, the apartment includes a sofa, side chair, TV console, nesting tables, two lamps, and a rug in the living room. The kitchen area includes seating for two. Each bedroom includes a full mattress, bed with drawers, a nightstand, lamp and a built-in desk with desk chair. The bathroom is equipped with a shower curtain and bath mat. Vertical blinds are included throughout the apartment.
What is my address at RAR and where do I get my mail?
The address for RAR is: Your Name, 9450 Gilman Drive, #80XXX, La Jolla, CA, 92092-0100. Your mail box number was emailed to you after signing your electronic rental agreement. Please email email@example.com or call 858.534.6990 if you did not receive it. You will receive the lock combination upon move-in. Mailboxes are located on the second floor of the building adjacent to the Residential Services Office.
How do I get information about my roommate before we move-in?
To request your roommate’s name and email address after you have signed your Rental Agreement, please send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org or call 858.534.6990.
What happens if my roommate vacates before I do?
A new roommate will be assigned to you based upon application date and gender. If you have a specific roommate request please contact the Residential Services Office.
